American Idol Sues Panamericana

Miami - A Peruvian television company is being sued by the makers of the hit television show American Idol. They are being accused of imitating the talent search programme which violates their copyright.

According to the producers of American Idol, which airs on the Fox Network, Superstar infringes on their copyright. The lawsuit lists the similarities between the two shows, including having two supportive judges and a caustic one.

FremantleMedia and the other producers fear that Panamericana may try to bring Superstar to the United States to appeal to the large Spanish-speaking audience there, the lawsuit said.

FremantleMedia North America Inc, FremantleMedia Ltd and 19TV Ltd filed the lawsuit in federal court in Miami last Wednesday. They want Panamericana Television SA to be barred from showing Superstar, in the US.
