Raincoat Music Review

Raincoat Music Review

Director: Rituparno Ghosh
Music: Debojyoti Mishra
Lyrics: Rituparno Ghosh
Rating: 2.5/5

Rituparno Ghosh maybe unknown by audience of Bollywood movie but he is a very popular name on bengali film circuit. So much so that Aishwarya went to do Choker Bali with him and that too in Bengali language. The movie didn’t worked too well but Aishwarya and Rituparno developed an excillent rapport at work. So when Rituparno decided to make his first hindi movie he choose Aishwarya and Ajay Devgan. He chose Debojyoti Mishra to do the music. The vocals are done by Shubha Mudgal and Hariharan.

Music Review
Mathura Nagarpati- 6:32 (Shubha Mudgal) Shubha Mudgal’s a good singer and though she needs to prove her alent ‘Mathura Nagarpati’ is ample display of her talent. The song to praise Lord Krishna. Its a nice soothing number.

Piya Tora Kaisa Abhimaan - 5:45 (Hariharan)Another song with classic base, Piya Tora .. appears twice in the album. The first version is sung by ‘Hariharan’. The song is for people who enjoy slow songs in a quiet envoirment. Hariharan weaves a sweet magin in the song.

Piya Tora Kaisa Abhimaan - 5:09 (Shubha Mudgal) The same song but sung by Shuba Mudgal. Its difficult to rate which of the two is better but I prefer the one sung by her. Gulzar saab’s shayari works wonders for the song.

Raha Dekhe - 3:31 (Shubha Mudgal) A simple song, yet touches the soul. Mudgal tells the the tail of two lovers separated from each other. A high pitched song in bihari.

Akele Hum Nadiya Kinare - 2:25 (Shubha Mudgal) Reminds you of old classics. One of the best songs of the album. A girl waiting for her lover on the corner of Yamuna. Reminds you of forgotten love.

Hamari Galiyan Hoke Aana- 4:11 (Chorus) A fun filled song of marriage and celebration. A sad version of the same song comes at the end of the album.

Jug Jiye- 2:09 (Chorus) Another celebration song sung on tabla, dholak and harmonium on birth of a child. Passable.

Hamari Galiyan Hoke Aana : Sad - 4:11 (Chorus) A slow version of its predicessor the song doesn’t impress much.

Bottom Line
Though this album is quiet a different from what you get the audience for such songs are very limited. One wonders what would be the shelf life of this album!
