Its official: Kaal is box-office hit
Despite the negative side-talk and reviews Kaal received from media the movie is expected to do a roaring business round the world.
‘Kaal’ opened to a fantabulous start everywhere. The opening was almost 100 per cent at practically all centers, confirming the fact that this Karan Johar-SRK joint venture had taken the best start after Veer-Zaara (If the film opens big on weekends, the investors can be assured of a quick recovery and that explains why Lucky, Waqt and now Kaal are in the plus).
The collections took a 15-25 percent dip in the days to follow, but that is not an alarming drop. The first week of Kaal would be historic and it might turn into the biggest grosser of the year so far.
The media, expectedly, went all out to pull the films down. Besides the negative reviews, the talk within the film industry was extremely off-putting and pessimistic as well.
Despite no preview shows being held for the movie (except for very private audience and actors of the film) some journals claimed that the movie “was not carrying encouraging reports” well before the release of the film.
Spoiler of the movie followed in the form of text messages - “Esha Deol is the killer in Kaal. She trains the tigers that kill Vivek, then John”. As time progressed the messages became more and more nasty.
A week hence Kaal has been officially declared universal hit and media moguls have had a hard time mincing their words.
What worked in Kaal’s favor were its short length, a focused and tout narrative and lack of song. With its limited production costs (no big stars and foreign locales) and astounding opening Kaal there is no spotting Kaal.
