Star-Screen award winners announced

Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee were awarded the best actor and actress award at the recently held Hero Honda 11th Annual Star Screen Awards held in Mumbai recently.

While Shah Rukh won the accolades for Veer Zaara, Rani who won several nominations this year walked away with the prized trophy for Hum Tum. 2004 was Rani’s year as best performance trophy wasn’t enough for her. She also bagged the Best Supporting actress trophy for her portrayal of a cheated women act in Yuva.

The event, held in Mumbai on Tuesday night, was filled with the glam and glitter typical of tinsel town. But there was also an expression of gam ka ehsaas (feeling of sadness) for the people affected by the Tsunami disaster.

Kunal Kohli surprised everyone by walking away with coveted Best Director trophy for ‘Hum Tum’ leaving behind talented directors like Yash Chopra (Veer Zaara) gaping with disbelief.

Yahs, Ashutosh and Farhan weren’t the only one who was disappointed, Preity Zinta ended up loosing her smile and dimples when she lost the best actress performance award.

Another surprise was missing nomination for Hrithik Roshan (Lakshya).

Abhishek Bachchan won the well-deserved best supporting actor award for his much appreciated performance in Mani Ratnam’s movie Yuva .

Veer Zaara, however, got four awards in the evening - best film, best actor (SRK), best story and dialogues (Aditya Chopra).

The event also featured on-stage performances by John Abraham, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Zayed Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Shahid Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan.

Songwriter Javed Akhtar’s special tsunami song Zindagi Pukarati Hai was performed on stage by as many as eighteen singers. Akhtar himself went on stage and asked the audience to spare some moments to remember those who lost lives or livelihood in the tsunami disaster.

The Star-Screen awards will be formally screened on Saturday by Star TV.
