Shikhar slides down

John Matthan second movie Shikhar after Sarfarosh is the result of his efforts of six years, his dream project and the outcome of his extreme hard work as a director, producer and writer. But Alas! Shikhar does not hold our expectations.

It is undoubtedly a beautiful effort but one that’s gone wrong! After Sarfarosh, expectations were too high from Shikhar. Sarfarosh definitely putted the stakes higher for Matthan. His over involvement (director, producer, writer) in Shikhar did not let, any one part develop successfully and completely. There are too many songs and many plots and subplots that take a viewer away from the main story. The screenplay needs much editing and the pace of the movie in second half should have been fast.

Despite of all its shortcomings Shikhar has been able to raised some thought provoking issues like deforestation and land-acquisition by greedy builders from innocent villagers, how greed can takes a sane man away from his values, how politicians manipulate common man and lastly how a cheated person, a loser overcome his weaknesses and fight back for his loved ones.

Salman has done that before for his film Tere Naam and now he is doing it again for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Jaaneman - He is going hairless. Salman sure like changing his looks!

In Tere Naam he played an intense lover that losses his mentality and that’s why the bald look was important. Jaaneman is a love triangle spread over 25 years, so all the more reason to go BALD. The film is being directed by Shirish Kunder and also stars Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta and Anupam Kher.

But some are also pointing this possibility that Salman has shaved his head as a part of his hair treatment. Salman had recently gone abroad for major head surgery for hair treatment but something went wrong and he fell ill. During his illness Jaaneman shooting was canceled and Sajid had to bear heavy losses. Maybe this is Salman’s gesture to Sajid.

Whatever maybe the possibility, Salman has full support of his friends who themselves has gone bald to support their star. So far, his hairstylists, his cook, his make-up guy and his spotboy has supported him with his new style, possibly his fans will follow him soon.

Item girl-actress Rakhi Sawant who came to limelight from her hot dance number Pardesiya - a remixed song, is back with the new remix album Pin-Up Doll.

This time she will gyrate her sexy body on the remix number ‘Mai Ka Karoon Ram Mujhay Buddha mil gaya‘. The original was from the film Sangam where actress-dancer Vyjayanthimala danced in sexy ‘Western’ clothing in a Paris hotel room. The song became immensely popular because of it modern feel.

Rakhi has chosen a tough one this time for she will undoubtedly be compared by the original dancer. The album is being produced by Tips Industries and has remixes by DJ Shoiizwood and Aashish.

Actress Kareena Kapoor has been crowned Indian Diva 2005 by Sahara One Television among eight tough contenders. Sparkling Koena Mitra and Glamorous Udita Goswami won the title of Style Diva and Diva Discovery of the year respectively.

None other than Zeenat Aman - India’s first Diva, was called upon to crown the three beauties ladies. Kareena admitted she thought Bipasha Basu would give her a run for her crown. Asked who her favourite all-time diva was, Kapoor said, “My sister Karisma. She has great style.”

Indian Diva a unique entertainment property in its second year was launched by Sahara One and Percept D’Mark. Their motto is to bring recognition to the most spirited diva from the film industry.

The contenders Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif, Shamita Shetty, Rimii Sen, Parmita Kakkar, Kareena Kapoor, Koena Mitra and Udita Goswami gave their performance on the hottest music tracks and were judged by the Sahara One Television viewers across the country though SMS poll.

Actors Anupam and Kirron Kher are off screen couple and want to star as on screen couples.

Both of them will be starring in director Rakeysh Mehra much awaited movie ‘Rang De Basanti’ where Kirron Kher will be playing Aamir’s mother and Anupam will be father to Kunal Kapoor in the film. But they don’t share any scenes together.

The last time they were see together on screen was in 1988 film ‘Pestonjee’, directed by Vijaya Mehta. The couple also starred in Yash Chopra’s recent release ‘Veer Zaara’, but here too they had no scenes together.

Says Kirron, “I don’t know why people are not approaching us to do a film together. It would be lovely to do a film together but I guess the roles would have to be of equal importance.”

Although Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee is still awaiting its Oscar verdict, the Time magazine has already selected it as one of the World’s 10 best films of 2005.

Black is placed in the fifth position because of its superb Direction, remarkable performance and touching screenplay.

Time magazine has given the list like this - Germany’s ‘The White Diamond’ and ‘Grizzy Man’ at the top, Ingmar Bergman’s ‘Saraband’, Fernando Meirelles’ ‘The Constant Gardener’, Rob Marshall’s ‘Memoirs Of A Geisha’ and then Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Black’.

Bhansali feels his hard work has paid off, “If a distinguished critic from another part of the world thinks Black is one of the ten best films of the year, there must be something to it. It’s a great victory for Indian cinema, and all my cast and crew” he said.
