Achtung! Mr. Minister : Gandhigiri at AiiMS
Movies can stir up ideas that can be whacky, though edgy for some. For Union Minister for health, Amburani Ramdoss “Munna Bhai” will not be a pleasant name to hear. The minister was given a “gandhigiri” treatment on his recent visit for dengue patients at AiiMS. The students and resident doctors of All india institute of Medical Sciences greeted Ramdoss with bouquets of red roses and posters poking at him with “Get Well Soon Amburani”.
Security guards pushed off the attempts of the students from giving flowers to Ramdoss. The minister has been accussed of being ignorant to the grave situation inflicted by Dengue at AiiMS. This brought out a spontaneous reaction from the students. Remember Lucky Singh being greeted with “Get well Soon Lucky”. No wonder ‘Boman irani’ and ‘Amburani’ sound similar. What do u say??

The magic of Indian cinema over the years
Cinema has captured our imagination, touched the deepest chords of human emotions, fascinated us and has given us an opportunity to understand relationships, situations and complexities of life from a person’s perspective in a larger-than-life fictious creation. It has given us our heroes, our role models. Over the years, humans have found some or the other way to showcase their creativity and get entertained. But, movies definitely stand out from the rest. Cinema has taken the centre stage for recreation. Indian cinema is one of the finest examples of creativity to entertain and educate the masses. People, whatever the age group they belong to just go ga-ga over the thought of their favorite movies, actors, or actresses, or even a song. The craze almost sweeps the whole nation. There are people who even identify with some of the characters and even relate to the situations at hand in the movie. And why not? Movies are, to a great extent, parallel to our own lives. A birthday or an anniversary, its always movies for a day out. This all began when an intelligent persona tried to show his creativity through actions, sequences in the Silent era with landmark movies like Raja harish Chandra in 1913. For Prithvi Raj Kapoor’s impeccable voice, the first talkies in Indian cinema was made called Alam Ara, directed by Ardeshir Irani in 1931. (more…)

Rang De basanti - India’s safest bet at the Oscars? Or Lage Raho…?
Unlike, Lage Raho… Rang De Basanti didn’t get the tax exemption but has got the Centre’s nod for this year’s academy awards’ race. Both the movies are different in approach and style and have the right flavour to hold and shake the audience. Both movies were successful and popular among the youth. So, why Rang De Basanti never got any tax ememption. Yea! There was violence, a misleading solution to the corruption in the system. But, it’s off to the Oscars!
The credit can also be given to the story teller’s idea of connecting the struggle of our past national heroes to the sufferings of the present generation at the hands of the corrupt politicians. On the other hand, Lage Raho.. professes non - violence and truth in a complete different package of ‘Gandhigiri’ . With great comic timing and taporish style, simple look, the movie is one of the top box- office scorchers. For the sake of his love, a Mumbai ‘bhai’ turning to Gandhigiri was appreciated for a change. And a welcome tax exemption to its name.
But, what about the Oscars? Well.. Gandhgiri was never popular among the firangs even for a Nobel Peace, so an Oscar… let me think .
