Vikram Bhatt’s “Elaan” is an action packed film marking the return of 80’s dancing superstar ‘Mithun Chakrobarty’ as a baddie being chased by with three hero’s (Arjun Rampal, John Abraham, Rahul Khanna) and two equally exasperated damsels (Amisha Patel and Lara Dutta).
A Venus production after the success of ‘Hulchul’, Elaan has music by Anu Malik and lyrics by Sameer.
1. Bechain Mera Dil Hai - [6:21] - Sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik ‘Bechain Mera Dil Hai’ is the opening song of the soundtrack. Beautifully sung (especially by Alka) it is the romantic and the best number of the album. 3/5
2. Dil Mein Hulchul - [7:37] - KK and Sunidhi Chauhan are heavy and husky while the lyrics stick to the basics. Not one of the better compositions by Anu Malik, it will hold value mainly due to the video. 2/5
3. Andarlu Mandarlu - [5:23] Coming up next is a fun song, “Andarlu Mandarlu” rendered by Anu Malik, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan. Sorry to say that the whole lot of singers disappoints utterly. The lyrics fall flat and so does the composition! This is the number one, which is instantly skipped over once its starts. 1/5
4. Andarlu Mandarlu (Remix) - [5:23] The listener’s patience is further tested with the remix version of “Andarlu Mandarlu”. Like the original, it too will badly shake the listener.1/5
5. Meri Zindagi Mein Koyi - Title song comes in the shape of ‘Meri Zindagi Mein Koyi’ and hey! The number sounds compellingly like the ones that accompany the opening credits of a James Bond movie. Gayatri Iyer is husky in her rendition, the accompanying vocals of females sound the same as they do in James Bond opening sequences and you are fully convinced about your belief when you hear the trademark guitar strings and the orchestra. This number should create the mood right in the very beginning of the movie and set the context of what the movie is about. Now, this should be a ‘watch-out-for’ song!! 3/5
6 Dua Karna - [6:03] - Sunidhi Chauhan delivers “Dua Karna”. She is just about average in her singing. This is a typical pre-climax number. The tune is just about average and lyrics predictable, but Lara’s presence and the choreographer’s efforts could take this number some distance. Overall the number is ‘come today gone tomorrow’ kinds and will die a silent death after the movie’s run is through. 2/5
Elaan as a movie may have great potential due to its fresh pairing, slick look, emergence of Rahul Khanna, return of Mithun and a formulaic feel that always works. But the music is nothing spectacular and seems to be a mere gap-filler.
