Bewafaa - the highly anticipated movie of 2005 ends up being predictable. Hurts doesn’t it!
Yes it does. Dharmesh Darshan, the once celebrated director of movies like Lootere and Raja Hindustani finds himself struggling in recent years with sub-standard products like Mela and now Bewafaa.
Dharmesh Darshan is a limited director. He is in Dadkhan mode and displays his shortcomings. He is bad at handling comic scenes; his characters get too loud at times and ham at places. But the worst part about Bewafaa is that characters look un-natural.
Anjali (Kareena Kapoor) is younger daughter of a Canadian mother (Nafisa Ali) and Punjabi father (Kabir Bedi) living in Montreal. She is a perfect daughter loved by her parents. She has a secret; she is in love with an aspiring musician and singer Raja (Akshay Kumar). Anjali’s elder sister Aarti (Sushmita Sen) who is married to a rich and busy business tycoon Aditya Sahni (Anil Kapoor) in India meets Raja and assures him that she will talk to parents once her child is born.
Unfortunately Aarti dies while giving birth to twins. Things happen too fast and Anjali gets married to Aditya and migrates to India. Aditya gets sucked in business and is not able to give proper attention to Anjali.
Anjali fulfils every role that one expects from a housewife, but cannot bridge the gap between Aditya and herself. She finds herself trapped in a marriage that seems more like a compromise.
Suddenly Raja returns in her life and Anjali walks towards an extra marital affair.
Somehow Dil (Manoj Bajpai) and his wife Pallavi (Shamita Shetta) who happen to be pal’s of Aditya get to know of Anjali’s brewing affair with Raja.
Anjali is stuck; she has a family and husband who don’t care at one end and a lover at another. She has to make a choice. Does she elope with Raja or she stays behind?
No points for guessing Dharmesh Darshan’s lackluster screenplay has in store for the viewers. Anjali does what ‘Aishwarya’ did in ‘hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’.
Common Dharmesh, Indian Audience has grown after Black and they expect something truly ‘hatke’.
Dharmesh had everything to begin with - a wonderful star cast, a soundtrack that’s being adored and audience anticipation to die for. Then why did you falter?
The film belongs to Kareena and she looks gorgeous throughout the movie. Ya! That’s all about her. What more did you expected us to say about her acting talent.
Anil Kapoor does his job effortlessly. Akshay and Sushmita shine in their respective roles. The role of Raja was tailor made for Akshay. Sushmita is a delight to watch in her brief role.
The movie also has Manoj Bajpai going completely over the top and hams badly in his role. Shamita Shetty is irritating.
Its good Suneel Darshan (Dharmesh Darshan) brother sold his distribution rights for Rajasthan before the movie release.
The best part about the movie is its Music.
Another hot movie of 2005 goes down the drain.
