Black Friday: Supreme Courts to hear the case

Black Friday: Supreme Courts to hear the case

Producers of Black Friday, a movie based on the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, today moved the Supreme Court challenging a Bombay High Court order stopping the release of the movie. The movie was scheduled to be screened in theatres across India on Friday.

The petition filed by Midday Multimedia was mentioned before a Bench headed by Chief Justive R C Lahoti. The court fixed Monday for hearing on the matter.

The story of ‘Black Friday’ is supposed to be based on the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. It was granted censorship certificate on the condition that the makers would insert a disclaimer right at the beginning of the screening of the movie that it was based on a book and did not impute any innocence or guilt on any of the personalities depicted in the film.

The High Court had on Thursday stayed the release of the movie scheduled for today in theatres across India on a petition filed by an accused in the serial bomb blasts case, Mustaq Musa Tarani,

The petitioner alleged that the movie would create a bias against him and other accused in the mind of public.

The movie was based on a book of the same name published in December 2002, copyright of which was bought by Mid-Day Multimedia.
