All’s not well with Reese Witherspoon

If the demise of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anis-ton’s relationship has taught us anything, it’s that just because a couple is photographed looking lovey-dovey doesn’t always mean all is well with the relationship.

That’s the reason why those rumors surrounding the marriage of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe will probably persist even though they have stepped out publicly together for the first time in two months at the LA premiere of the actor’s new film Crash.

Reese, 29, in an empire-waisted dress will likely reignite those pregnancy whispers, posed happily with her husband of six years, who barely smiled on the red carpet.

Their united front comes more than a week after Witherspoon filed a false imprisonment complaint against some aggressive paparazzi who chased her home from the gym, and three weeks after an Us Weekly cover story claimed the couple, who have two children, Ava, 5, and Deacon, 1/2, were living “separate lives.”

“They go to dinner with a group of people and sit on opposite sides of the table and don’t speak to each other,” one source told the magazine, with another adding, “(Ryan) always looks happy just to be out away from Reese.” Witherspoon’s rep is insisting, “They are very happy.”

It’s likely several media outlets will bring out their body language experts to analyse the premiere pics for clues to the state of the couple’s union, dissecting everything from the persistent dour expression on Ryan’s face to the position of Reese’s hands on his chest.
