Besides films, AB Corp has now set its sights on theatre. The company is set to produce its first theatrical venture, titled Lali-Lila

This play, in Hindi, will be produced jointly with Sanjay Goradia Productions, and presented by Jaya Bachchan.

Actor-producer Goradia, a well-known name in Gujarati theatre, has produced several Hindi plays with filmstars. He has also staged Dr Mukta and Ma Retire Hoti Hai, both starring Jaya Bachchan.

The play is about Siamese twins Lali and Lila, who, despite being physically joined at the hip, are vastly dissimilar in temperament. One of them is a net savvy graphic designer, while the other is a painter and poet.

Life changes when Lila falls in love with a boy with whom she is used to chatting on the net. From that day on, complications emerge in the life of the twins.

AB Corp’s films include Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali film, Antar Mahal (starring Abhishek Bachchan and Soha Ali Khan), Rajkumar Santoshi’s Family, and Mahesh Manjrekar’s Viruddh.

Lali-Lila has been penned in Marathi by celebrated writer-director, Devendra Pem - best known for his hugely successful play, All The Best. The Gujarati version was staged by Sanjay Goradia and still runs in the city.

The Hindi version of Lali-Lila will be directed by Vipul Mehta, who also directed the Gujarati version. Mehta, along with Harin Thakar, has adapted it from the Marathi original.

“The cast of Lali-Lila is yet to be finalised,” says Goradia. “As the lead pair remain stuck to each other throughout the show, we have to look for appropriate cast who can suit the roles.”

Goradia’s recent Gujarati plays include Pallavi Bani Parvati (with Kruttika Desai) and Mrs Manjula Marfatia (with Ketki Dave).
