Bride and Prejudice: All pomp no show
Bride and Prejudice all pomp no show
Nearly all the picture halls across India opened up with housefull board today, celebrating the arrival of much hyped ‘Bride and Prejudice’. Everyone thought this ought to the the end of the drought plaughing the string of flops and bad flicks that were being bombarded on the Cinema screens for the past two weeks.
In accordance with the theme of the movie - Indian Marriage - cinema halls had chalked in ambitious plans to greet the audience of ‘Bride and Prejudice’. They had lined up Band wajawallah, to paanwallah’s; at ticket counter we were received by saree clad hostess and a lot more. Perhaps exibitors felt ‘Bride and Prejudice’ would revive the Indian film market the way ‘Hum Aapkay Hein kon’ in 1996.
But, Gurinder Chadha isn’t Suraj Barjatiya. More so, this latest offering of her’s is no where near her previous outing - Bend it Like Beckham. Bride and Prejudice lacks the soul and subtance that her previous flick had. The songs are pretty washed out and the only relief is through the colours and vivid humour.
