Cannes and bollywood movies
Cannes Film Festival has been in news almost every year as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was invited to the festival. Cannes is known for costumes although; it is world’s major film event where invitation is not compulsory.
Cannes is a resort town in France where the Film Festival is held as a private event and to screen a movie at Cannes, the movie should be screened at the Festival Palace, to qualify for the official entry.
This year Cannes was visited by a number of bollywood movie makers and stars but the festival was in news for the saree and gowns instead of Indian movies. None of the top upcoming bollywood films were screened at the Festival Palace, in fact the movies are screened at some other theatres of Cannes and the only movie this year taken as official entry from India was Udaan which was not given appropriate consideration in the Indian group.
Leading bollywood actresses present in the film festival are not invited for their accomplishment in films instead it is just the costume show which ends without any cinema instead, Hindi film personalities present at the show get a few more advertisements as the increased number of camera clicks.
Some of the Hindi movies which had been to Cannes for screening but failed to get the Festival Palace screening are Kambakht Ishq, My Name is Khan and Kites .Hindi cinema is still not considered serious at Cannes and same can be said for the leading representatives of the cinema at Cannes. There is a need to be more serious in movie making, and the lead actors and makers of such movies should represent India at Cannes.
