CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Johnny ‘Wonka’ Depp sets up a chocolate factory that offers children much more than a mouthful.
Johnny Depp will be seen in a different role this time, as Willy Wonka, head of the highly popular Wonka Chocolate Empire. Young Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) comes from a poor family, spending most of his time dreaming about the chocolate that he loves but can’t afford.
Things change when Wonka announces a contest in which five gold tickets have been hidden in chocolate bars and sent throughout the country. The kids who find the tickets will be taken on a tour of Wonka’s factory.
Charlie miraculously finds a ticket, but the tour holds more than a few surprises.
Acclaimed director Tim Burton brings his vividly imaginative style to the beloved Roald Dahl classic Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Published in 1964, the book has sold over 13 million copies worldwide and been translated into 32 languages.
Based on the book’s description of Wonka’s sparkling eyes, Depp selected a pair of violet-tinted contact lenses, and drawing from the story of Wonka’s childhood orthodontia, decided he should flash remarkably perfect teeth. The top hat came from Quentin Blake drawings, and the hair was a kind of Prince Valiant do, with high bangs and a bob.
