Court dismiss complain against Bachchan
A Delhi court dismissed a complaint against bollywood Badshah Amitabh Bachchan
Besides Bachchan, the complainant had also charged PVR Pvt Ltd, Ajay Bijli and others with promoting the use of tobacco.
Bangia Science Foundation had filed the complaint on June 22 after PVR published a magazine ‘Movie first’ showing a full size poster of Amitabh Bachchan smoking ‘bidi.’
Dismissing the complaint, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Manoj Jain said that it was just an advertisement of film ‘Bunty aur Babli’ and hence it could not be said to be promoting cigarette smoking.
The complainant had alleged that the above persons had committed offences under sections 5 and 22 of the Cigarette and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition) and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution Act 2003.
It had further alleged that Bachchan and PVR had also violated sections 4 and 7 of the Delhi (Prohibition) of Smoking and non-Smoker Health Protection Act.
The court expressed displeasure over such complaints noting: ‘’It seems that the complaint has been filed just out of publicity motive.'’
