Gandhi My Father was to be made by Yash Raj Banner but the movie wasn’t undertaken by Yash as they feared controversy will take up with the movie.

Anil Kapoor had the courage to handle such situation and was benefited for taking up his first movie based on Gandhi. Feroz Abbas Khan had done a popular play ‘Gandhi Virudh Gandhi’ that became the story of the movie.
