Mahesh Bhatt’s coming release, Gangster based on crime and love has so far been in controversy because many thinks that the movie has been inspired from gangster Abu Salem’ life but Bhatt has denied allegations saying that the movie is a work of pure fiction.

So what actually is Gangster all about? Gangster is the story of an underworld character who falls in love with a bar girl and puts his life at stake to keep her with him. It is a triangular love story starring Shiny Ahuja - playing the title role of gangster, Kangna playing his love lady and Emran Hashmi is someone whom Kangna falls in love with. According to Mahesh Bhatt, Gangster is not a story of the underworld, but of the human heart in conflict with itself… A story of love and betrayal.

The love story of Daya (Shiney Ahuja) and Simran (Kangana Ranaut) was aberrant. They loved each other even though away from one another, they loved each other although they are dissimilar, they loved each other despite forces want to break them apart and they loved each other despite the fact that Daya was a criminal.

The only thing that tied them together - their Dreams!

Daya was a criminal, a man at large who was hunted around by the police all over the globe. Though there was not much in his life to cheer about, there was only one person who brought him happiness - his ladylove Simran. She too reciprocated his love but wanted only one thing in return - a simple life with kids, home and lots of love from the man of her dreams.

A contrasting personality Akash (Emraan Hashmi) soon enters Simran’s life. A happy-go-lucky young man, he has in him everything that Simran wanted from her dream partner. Though, he is a little careless when it comes to realizing the value of life he lives every day and enjoys to the fullest.

Akash and Simran start getting closer to each other fully realizing that they are walking a road of thorns. While Akash learns the lessons of life the hard way, Simran is in a dilemma regarding the man she wants to spend her life with!

Will Daya return back to give Simran whatever she desired? Or will police nail him down to permanently separate him from his lady love? Does Simran choose Akash over Daya and live an uncomplicated life? Or will she betray both - Daya who has selflessly loved her Or Akash who has shown her the way to live her dreams?

Directed by Anurag Basu under the banner of Vishesh Films the film promises to have everything - love, sex, thrills, drama, shock and above all a distinct story that will keep the viewer guessing at every step. Gangster has been shot in never-seen-before city of Seoul (South Korea). It has a superb musical score by Pritam (in true Bhatt tradition).

Trivia for Gangster
-John Abraham and Sanjay Dutt were considered for roles in this movie.
-Pakistani cricket player, Shoaib Akhtar, was offered a role in this movie but turned it down.
-When the climax was shot where Shiney (whose character is based on Abu Salem) is arrested at Seoul station in the movie, Abu Salem was brought to India on that very day.

Mahesh Bhatt in an interview has told, “The worst of gangsters are killed, either by their girlfriends or by their Gods. Their passion slows them down; or, their love or fear of God forces them to come into the open and perform their prayers, and that’s when the police kill them.”
