Heavy investments by movie makers in making historical movies
The technological advancement in Bollywood needs investment and as Bollywood is trying to improve its technical specifications the cost of movie making is also increasing. Taj Mahal –An Eternal Love Story will be screened in Dubai today which is one of the most expensive movies of Bollywood. The movie last completed Jodha-Akbar by Ashutosh Gowarikar is also promoted to be a huge movie that is made to look historic after huge money pouring.
The movie Jodha -Akbar retained 80 elephants and 100 horses to the sets and structured camps to make the war sequence real. The star Hrithik Roshan stayed in the war like tents camps during the shoot of the movie with their families. It is said that a total of Rs 60 crore was spent towards the making of the movie. The grand structure of the movie has been shown in a short promo released by Ashutosh but until the movie releases the outcome of the efforts and money spending can not be predicted.
Most of the historical movies based on the lives of Kings and Emperors are full of the splendid life snaps lived by the rulers and for the depiction of lives of the rulers money has to be invested. The movie Taj Mahal –An Eternal Love Story made by Akbar Khan will be screened at the International Film Festival on 11th December and the movie have been made at a cost of Rs 700 million.
In 1950’s Indian cinema one of the expensive movies made was Mughal-e-Azam that cost $3 million in the 1950s.In 1950 the movie were made in less than half a million dollar. The sets of the black and white movie Mughal-e-Azam were made in months and a single song of the movie was made in colour for the first time. The movie Mughal-e-Azam was based on the love story of prince Salim and a slave Anarkali.
Last year the movie Umrao Jaan was also a costly movie made at a cost 20 crore was based on a historical subject and it was not a successful movie but the movies made after so much investment and efforts have their permanent mark on Indian cinema.
