Hindi audience in small towns are getting left out by Hindi movies

As the Bollywood audience are getting increased in the international market and the metro audience are visiting the expensive Malls to view the movies, the basic Hindi belt in the small cities of UP, Rajasthan, Punjab and Bihar are not getting their share of attention by the advertisers of Bollywood.

Bollywood is concentrating more on revenue generation and that is taking the movie makers to the audiences that are present in overseas market. Bollywood is spending a large sum of money on promotion of movies in the overseas market as the recognition in such market brings more revenue and opportunities along with fame in international audiences to the movie makers. In this entire race for getting their share of viewers the small town audience is feeling rejected.

The movies like Jab We Met was not promoted in the basic Hindi areas and that decreased the popularity of a good movie in such areas. Infra-structurally less developed small towns generally do not have the Internet and other media to get to know of an upcoming movie.

Earlier many movies were made to suit the taste of small town movie goers but the changing scenario in the Metro’s with the upcoming development of Multiplexes and theatres, the producers are concerned over getting their share of profit only from the metro cities.

Many movies has been made like Life in Metro, Page 3, Mumbai Salsa and others just for the audience going to the multiplexes as the rates of movie ticket at multiplex is more than Rs 100 for a show whereas the movie ticket in a small town sells for Rs 20 for a show and the movies popular with metro audience gains more profits in a day than a movie that runs in a small town for a week. All these has sidelined the small town movie goers in the major Hindi belt that played a decisive role in making a movie a hit some years back.
