The Hindi filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee made mostly simplistic social comedies and he has been loved by his fans for making movies like “Chupke Chupke”, “Anupama”, ”Anand “, “Abhimaan”, “Guddi” , “Gol Maal”, “Bawarchi”, and “Namak Haraam.” Most of these films were based on families, fun together in families and it was inspired from Calcutta (Bengali) way of living. He tried to talk of families and happiness in joint families, at the time when joint families started breaking up into nuclear families in India.

The film “Guddi “taught of ill- craze for cinema,”Abhimaan” catches on ego of famous people and “Namak Haram” was about the plot of an industrialist to uses his deprived close friend to win labors in his business for financial benefits and the plan falls apart when his friend turns against him for the benefit of the suffering labors in the business house.

All his movies had something to do with the education system, sciences and colleges and that may be because he himself taught mathematics and Science after graduating in Chemistry. Hrishikesh joined with his mentor Bimal Roy in Mumbai as a film editor after initially working as a cameraman and his last movie was “Jhoot Bole Kuva Kate “ that did not succeed on box-office. Hrishikesh Mukherjee passed away on August 27, 2006.
