Priyadarshan is well known for his comedy which makes the fact that ‘Hulchul’ is another comedy of errors, mishaps, confusion and romance, no surprise. The film revolves around two villages, their families, their past, their grudge and of course, their children that fall in love.

Angaarchand (Amrish Puri) and his four sons have had bad luck with women and thus, they all vows to stay away from them. Lakshmidevi (Lakshmi), the landlord of the neighboring village vows to get revenge on Angaarchand’s family. Trouble arises when Jay (Akshaye Khanna), the smallest song of Angaarchand, who is brilliant, falls in love with Anjali (Kareena Kapoor), and refuses to let her go. Anjali, who is also brilliant and witty, eventually falls in love with Jay too and they both decide to rebel from their family. However, Jai doesn’t know that Anjali’s original plan may not have been to truly fall in love with him, but to follow her brother Veer (Sunil Shetty) and mother’s orders.

Trouble ensues when both families do not know what is real and what is a joke, but only Jay and Anjali know the truth.
