I am willing to expose: Shruti Sharma :: Miss India-World 02 gets ready to bare

Unlike other beauty queens who have made a seamless transition from fashion to films, Miss India-World 2002 Shruti Sharma has struggled to find a way into Bollywood. Her reluctance to expose, she insists, has proved so far held her back. But the pretty Mumbai girl says she’s ready to join the bare-dare brigade.

Why is it that you have been unable to make headway in Bollywood even two years after winning the Miss India-World crown?
I refused to expose when I had a lot film offers. That is the only reason why I don’t have a foothold in Bollywood today. I now agree that if you have to get anywhere in the film industry, you have to expose.

So you have made up your mind to strip for success?
Every actress will tell you that she is willing to expose within certain limits. And so will I. I am ready to do an item number since I realise that a number of girls have used it as a stepping-stone to stardom.

Is that why you have stepped up glamorous modelling assignments of late?
I want my face to be instantly recognisable. I have therefore done a number of prestigious assignments for Sunsilk Hair Pro-Colour, Shoppers Stop, Toyota Qualis, Proline and the Taj Group. Producers and directors often notice you in modelling appearances and this was another reason why I have become more ‘visible’ recently.

Are you eyeing a career in Bollywood because you are dissatisfied with the modelling world?
Like everyone else, I too want to move ahead in showbiz. Films being the next logical step after the ramp, that is where I see my future. Even if I have to do item numbers to bridge the gap between fashion and films, I am ready and willing. No matter what, I will achieve my ultimate goal.

Do you currently have any film offer in hand?
Not right now but I am sure things will change very shortly.
