Dimple Kapadia wants to play different kind of roles (Dil Chahta Hai, Leela) and now she will be seen as Katy - a Parsi woman romancing a young man (Saif Ali Khan) in her forthcoming film ‘Being Cyrus’ made by debutant director Homi Adajania.

Being Cyrus has also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Saif Ali Khan and Boman Irani. Talking about the film she also says she is not averse to play a role opposite her ex husband Rajesh Khanna.

Is Being Cyrus on relationships?
It is not on complications in relationships. It is not on dysfunctional marriage either. How would I describe the film? I would say it has a lot of black humour in it.

Is it refreshing to work with a first-time director?
It is. Homi was prepared right from the word go. Everything was ready.

Do you play a submissive wife in the film?
I play Naseer’s wife, who is not very content with life and wants to break free. No, I don’t play a very submissive wife as such, but a wife who finds life very mundane. I have worked with Naseer earlier, but am always very conscious with him. He is one of the brilliant actors we have in our industry. Every time I work with him, I learn something, as he is much disciplined. He is very helpful, too.

Do you think Saif has matured as an actor?
I feel Saif has really grown as an actor. This is one of his finest performances in recent times. I have seen some of his films, but feel he will always be remembered for Being Cyrus. There are some scenes that show great screen chemistry between us.

What about the older woman-younger man concept?
I think falling in love with an older woman is not abnormal. It happens a lot in our society, but it’s just that it is not accepted with open arms. I was never uncomfortable playing such roles. I just play out my character. I don’t know why I am approached for such roles but all my three films - Dil Chahta Hai, Leela and Being Cyrus are very different from one another.

Do you think being Being Cyrus would have lost its flavour had it been made in Hindi? How do you see the future of English films in India?
Being Cyrus is very young in language or grammar. I am not saying that these things can’t be achieved in Hindi. All I am saying is that it would not be the same. English in this film is unlike what we have seen till date. This is can be easily compared to Indian literature in English. There is a future for English films. Don’t we all talk, breathe and think in English? If we can talk and think in English, we can also make films in English.

What next?
I have ‘Banaras’, but I am not allowed to talk much about it. It was an experience to remember. I am trying to do films that stay with me for some time. Banaras stays with me.

How is your business faring?
Very good! I am no more involved directly with it. My daughters are looking after it. I was asked to set up the business, which I have done.

There was talk of a film with Rajesh Khanna and you coming together on screen. How far has it advanced?
Let’s wait and see. I would love to work with him.
