Arjun Rampal who has just been awarded the best supporting actor award by Film Cafe of BBC Asian Network says he is not jealous of John Abraham even though the two started their career together and today John comes under best actor’s category.

How do you see your own film, as a film star or as a viewer?
When I look at a movie, I see it as a viewer.

You regret your decision for not accepting Rang De Basanti?
No, not at all! And, I haven’t seen the film.

John and you started your respective careers at around the same time. What do positions mean to you?
You get slotted through your success and by how consistent you’ve been with your success. I’m happy for John. I’m not going to be jealous of him or anyone. The industry has given me a lot and I don’t use other people’s success as a parameter to measure my own success. The choices you make depend on how your career shapes up.

What are the new projects you're working on?
Don, Darna Zaroori Hai and I am doing a special appearance in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Then, I’m doing Meridian which is an English film dealing with the concept of karma. It has been produced for the western market.

There was a point where your performances were criticised. Now, filmmakers like Farhan and Karan have signed you on. What changed?
I would like to say that I’ve never been criticised for my work. My work has always been appreciated. The only thing that people have pointed out is that I’ve not had a super super, hit as yet. I’m aware of this and am working towards that.

You've never had a solo hit film. How do you plan to change this?
How many actors have had that today? It’s difficult. It’s a lot of hard work. It comes from experience. I’ve been in this industry for four years and I’ve come from a background that gave me no advice. It took me time to learn how things work here. Today, I’m still learning. I’ve realised that to make a good film and to make everyone happy doesn’t depend on one person. It’s a mix of many factors.

How do you feel about the BBC Asian's Best Supporting actor award?
I really don’t know what to say except that I was very pleasantly surprised at first because this came out of the blue for me, and now that it has sunk in I am truly humbled by the love and confidence that my fans and well wishers have for me. This is truly a confidence booster for me and it encourages me to push myself to work in better films in the future.
