Is Laaga Chunari Mein Daag a remake?

There are rumors that the movie Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is a remake of movie from 1970’s. There has been no such mention from the makers of the movie, so is it just a gossip by media? The year 2007 has seen many remakes of the movie released in the year 1970’s like RGV Ki Aag and Victoria No. 203. Not only the remakes the dressing up and the touch of 70’s is also found in the movie by Farah Khan Om Shanti Om.

The year 2007 has also seen that the remakes are getting flopped. Both the movie RGV Ki Aag and Victoria No. 203 have been registered into be the flop list of the year 2007.

Yash Raj Banner has never given a remake movie or even as such inspired movie to the audience. The new concept and the story by Yash Raj Banner are its selling point along with the presentation of the story.

The movie to be released in October by Yash Raj Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is rumored to be a remake of the movie Aaina ,not the Aaina of 90’s casting Juhi Chawala and Amrita Singh but Aaina of 70’s that casted beautiful actress Mumtaz and the initial superheros of 70s Rajesh Khanna. The movie Aaina of 70’s was one of the blockbusters of the decade.

The story of the movie Laaga Chunari Mein Daag or as it is said the script of the movie seems to be inspired by Aaina, that depicted Mumtaz to be a girl from a small town belonging to a dignified family who got into the flesh trade and helped the family suffering financial crisis with the money she earned from flesh trade. The family disowns her when they are informed of her involvement into flesh trade but the hero of them movie supports her all through her tough times.

The script of the movie Laaga Chunari Mein Daag also depicts Rani Mukharjee playing a girl from a respectable family from a small time who turns into a prostitute to just help her family out of the financial crisis. Not only Aaina there are many other movies in 1970’s and also in 1980’s like the one Bhavna enacted by Shabana Azmi who have similar stories.

It can be said that the initial script of the movie Laaga Chunari Mein Daag is an old one but as an audience if anybody checks the list of movies given by Yash Raj Banner, most of the times we can find innovative ideas and a new movie like the story of the movies Chak De India, Lamhe, Silsila, Chandni were completely different from the general crowd. We do not expect a remake from Yash Raj Banner or even if the story of the movie is an old one, we can expect the story telling and presentation along with the performances by the actors’ new and different to make it non comparable to any other movie.
