Kareena paired opposite Aamir Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Mr. and Mrs. Singh

Kareena has finally managed to steal a role in an ‘Aamir Khan’ film, from the likes of Rani Mukherjee and Preity Zinta.

Vishal Bhardwaj has signed her opposite Aamir in his next - Mr. and Mrs. Singh. Kareena portrays the character of Mrs Singh in the movie and Aamir will be essaying the role of Mr. Singh.

Vishal says, “Before zeroing in on Kareena, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta and Vidya Balan were considered for this role. I couldn’t get Rani and Preity because of date problems. As for Vidya, she agreed, but I wasn’t too sure about going ahead with her. Meanwhile, it struck us that we should offer the film to Kareena. The pair would be new and a refreshing change. We asked her and she instantly agreed.”

Justifying Kareena’s choice, Vishal says, “I feel Kareena is a great performer. The fresh pairing will arouse a great degree of interest. Aamir too had a say in Kareena’s inclusion. After all, he is the hero of the film.”

Mr and Mrs Singh’s story is based on the relationship a married couple shares over 25 years. Both Aamir and Kareena will be shown aging in the film. There are plans to get the international stylist who designed Russell Crowe’s look in A Beautiful Mind, to design the look of the actors in the film.

“It’s going to be a great role for Kareena - more often than not, we have seen her in the usual, heroine-type roles. Like Aamir, she too will age in the film (from 25 to 55) and will have five different looks. Aamir starts off as a chartered accountant in the film, but undergoes changes over time; Kareena starts off as a housewife. I want the technician to style the look for Kareena and Aamir,” explains the director.

The shooting of the film will start in July 2006 and Vishal plans to wind up the production of Mr and Mrs Singh by September 2006.

Film will be shot in Pondicherry. Another main character, probably from the Tamil film industry, would be finalized soon.

After remaining elusive from the silver screen post ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ Aamir seems to be on a signing spree. After Mangal Pandey (2005) - Rakesh Om Prakash’s Rang De Basanti (releasing in December 2005) and Kunal Kohli’s Fanaah (commencing in October 2005) are already on floor.

As for Kareena, Mr and Mrs Singh will give a welcome thrust to her otherwise stagnant career (Aamir Khan’s pairing with Karisma Kapoor in Raja Hindustani sky-rocketed the actress’s career).
