Karnataka Cabinet okays Anti-Piracy Act
If Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh has his will Piracy might finally be declared a serious Offence may be brought under Goonda Act.
Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh announced that his cabinet has okayed a proposal to bring about an Anti-Piracy Act to punish those involved with audio and video piracy. It is considering bringing the offence under the Goonda Act. This will entitle a one-year sentence. Obviously, he’s taken his cue from his counterpart across the border in Tamil Nadu.
Singh also announced sops for the beleaguered Kannada film industry and asserted that a film academy will be operational in two months. The government has also set aside 400 acres for a Film City along the lines of Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad.
The Karnataka State Legislative Assembly passed an amendment bill levying entertainment tax of Re 1 per ticket for non-airconditioned theatres and Rs 1.50 for AC cinemas.
