Khushboo - ‘It’s not fair to have picked on me’
South Indian film actress Khushboo is suing a London-based men’s magazine - Maxim for putting a morphed photograph of her, in its first Indian edition. The picture has her face pasted over the body of a woman wearing a red transparent bikini with a derogatory caption written under it “Of course I am a virgin if you don’t count from the behind”.
This has upset Khushboo who had barely recovered from the controversy last year over her remarks on pre-marital sex. Her remark had outraged Tamil sentiments and set off a slew of cases against the former No. 1 in Kollywood. Ultimately she had to apologise. The actress is now planning to take legal action against the magazine even though the publishers have been calling her from London, New Delhi and Mumbai and apologising profusely.
She said, “Maxim have told me that they will publicly apologise and will print a rejoinder in the next issue. But I don’t think that’s enough. It’s not fair to have picked on me, just because I was in the middle of a controversy last year.”
She also told the magazine editors that the damage had been done and that she would take necessary action. “I am also a wife and a mother and am answerable to many of my fans,” she said.
Her lawyer Karthikeyan said, a criminal defamation suit would be filed in the court of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in Chennai, a criminal complaint against the publisher with the city police under Section 292 (A) of Indian Penal Code for violation of an Act that protects women from indecent representation and the third in the High Court, claiming damages.
