Mere Jeevan Saathi - repetitive obsession track
Suneel Darshan’s musical melodrama after five year of struggle has finally made to the theaters. The movie stars Akshay Kumar, Karisma Kapoor and Amisha Patel in the leading roles. The film revolves round love triangle where Akshay Kumar is sandwiched between a psycho lover played by Karisma and a loyal girlfriend played by Amisha. Surprisingly ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’ doesn’t look out-dated or worn out thanks to its glamour and glitter. But we can’t over look the fact that the same subject has been use ‘n’ number of times making it a bit dull.
Vicky (Akshay Kumar) is an aspiring pop singer in love with his college sweetheart Anjali (Amisha Patel). Like a dedicated lover she stands by him through thick or thin. When he sings his signature song ‘mere jeevan saathi’ at his first rock concert, Vicky becomes an instant hit. The show promoters Morani-Torani (Gulshan Grover and Ashish Vidyarthi) get impressed by his talent and offer him a hefty advance to do their future concerts. Even as Vicky is considering their offer - he gets a call that changes his life forever.
Angel Music, one of the biggest and best music companies in the world, offers him an exclusive contract that will turn Vicky into an international rock star. Vicky returns the advance to the show promoters and jets off abroad for his first concert with Angel. This enrages Morani-Torani and they decide to score with Vicky any time in future. Vicky soon meets Angel’s beautiful and enigmatic CEO Natasha {Karisma Kapoor) who floors him with her charm and warmth.
What he does not know is that Natasha has had a crush on him since teenage days. She went to the same college and has silently and yet intensely loved Vicky. Also she was the anonymous writer of his evergreen song - mere jeevan saathi. As heiress of an international music company based in the US, she now wants to make him a singing sensation. Everything she has done so far is for her love, Vicky. But there is a thin line between love and obsession and Natasha comes in the latter category.
Now Natasha wants to make him completely hers. She makes a pass at him. He resists at first but then…
Natasha show her true colors - she slashes her wrist, follows him to India, screams to throw Anjali out of her way and like a true psycho, dances feverishly on glass, plot murder stories ect. Vicky want to be away from her company but cannot do so because at the bottom of his heart is guilt, which harbors as he had a one-night stand with Natasha. He admits it was a mistake and wants to break free.
While Natasha’s love for him borders on the obsessive; Anjali’s love for him is trusting and pure. Two women, totally dissimilar to each other, love Vicky with equal intensity. Vicky is torn apart. His love, life, even his music is at stake.
The ending is quite predictable.
The good thing about the movie is that the acting of the all stars was good. Karisma Kapoor steals the show as neurotic Natasha. Amisha Patel too has a fabulous wardrobe and looked spirited but her character was poorly etched. Akshay even though looked bored he was elegant as ever. Also the movie was not too stretcher to make a moviegoer leave the show.
Now the bad part - the movie was musical but none of songs came out well enough to be catchy. Once heard they were forgettable. The music by Nadeem Shravan belongs to decades ago. Akshay Kumar as a college pupil part looked a bit over-stretched. The cinematography is tacky.
You should be an obsessive Akshay Kumar fan to watch this movie.
