The director of the movie Hope and a Little Sugar, Tanuja Chandra has been making socially awaking women oriented movies and the movie Hope and a Little Sugar is based on a social theme. The movie has finished production and will be released by April 18, 2008.The story of the movie is about love between a Sikh woman and a Muslim boy. The movie has been made in English and the production of the movie has been done by independent producers from New York.

The movie script has western influence and the music of the film has also been composed by a New York based musician (who earlier were associated to the Praksah Jha’s movie Gangajal ).The music composition has been helped by the singers Sonu Nigam and Jasbir Jassi. The afghan film maker Jawad Wassal has also been associated to the movie.

The story of the movie starts as the Bike messenger Ali meets the wife of Harry, Saloni. Saloni is the daughter in law of a Sikh family and she owns a sweet shop. Saloni encourages Ali towards photography and develops friendship with him. Saloni’s husband is also a close friend of Ali and then happens the 9/11 terrorist event in U.S.

The retired army colonel, who is the father in law of Saloni, gets angered towards Ali when he gets the idea of Saloni relation with Ali. Colonel has longstanding antagonism for Muslim community to which Ali belongs, but his wife tried to help her husband get out of the problem but the Colonel couldn’t withstand the pain and things end in a terrible manner.
