The film ‘Tahaan’ is about a little boy who unknowingly gets driven into doing a wrong work.

Tahaan is a eight year old boy who stays with his mother, grandfather and sister .He spends most of his time with his donkey birbal .Tahaan’s father has left for unknown journey three years back and he hasn’t returned though his mother is patiently waiting for his father. The innocent boy shares most of his time with birbal, the donkey, and he is always questioning about the world.

Tahaan’s mother has faced many hardships in life but she is determined and she can wait endlessly for her husband to return. Tahaan’s old grandfather has taken the responsibilities of his grandchildren and daughter-in-law in absence of his son and he has taken loans from Kuka, the money lender who educated in a city outside of Kashmir and he manages Lalaji’s business.

Kuka wants to bring some sort changes to the money lending system in the valley and he is very materialistic. Tahaan has a 14 year-old sister Zoya and she is very caring sister of Tahaan.

Once Tahaan’s grandfather die and Lalaji’s manager take away his family’s assets and birbal in return of the loans. Tahaan’s goes searching for his friend birbal, his donkey but he is besieged to see that his donkey has been taken away by Subhan, the old man who journeys across the mountains and he has many stories to tell Tahaan. His only aim is to o help his nephew, Yasin, 8 year old orphan boy. Subhan have a 35 year old helper Zafar.

Subhan are joined by Tahaan across the mountains but on reaching the other side of the mountain Subhan, gifts the donkey to his nephew. On return journey Tahaan is unknowingly handed a bag of grenade by ldrees, a 16 year old teenager who is anti national and Tahaan is asked to carry the bag of grenade across the mountains. Will Tahaan get his donkey and what price he will pay for it, is the story of the film.
