Movie Review Bow Barrack Forever
Genre:Drama
Director:Anjan Dutt
Cast:Lillete Dubey, Clayton Rodgers, Neha Dubey, Sabyasachi Chakravarthy, Sohini Pal, Moon Moon Sen, Avijit Dutt
Story/Writer:Anjan Dutt
The movie is a great effort by the filmmaker to bring the Anglo Indian community people to limelight. There are no thrills or action with international location in the movie. The movie is about a community of people found in many areas of India. In the movie they all belong to area close to Calcutta. The performance of the skilled actors and the very authentic direction by Anjan Dutt makes the movie better than many commercial cinema released in July.
The songs of the movie has already catched up with the audience. It is a real act and real story that is the conclusion of the movie. After World War II a few English people left behind have stayed in India for long. The generations have passed and still the culture exists in some part of India. The story of the movie is about an Anglo Indian community facing everyday problems, monetary problems, relationships problems, many problems in life but still living with a high spirit of life.
The character played by Victor Banerjee is of Peter a cheater, who was a soldier sometime and now he is busy impressing the community leader played by Lilette Dubey. Lilette Dubey has a son staying in Western country and she is always sending messages on his answering machine with a hope to get a call some day from his son.
Earlier many movies have been made on the Anglo Indian community in India.
Even in 70s the movie Julie showed the Anglo Indian community to be an open community. Other movies that showed them influenced by the Indian social structure and culture was the movie Baton Baton Mein.
Bow Barrack Forever is a non commercial movie and the Anglo Indian community roots and structure has been shown. The community many times looks to be baseless and when the problems are faced by the community from the outside people they join hands to fight for their rights. People of varying ages and problems are displayed.
All the characters of the movie are dissimilar to other. Period movie recently released was 36 Chowringee Lane where the Anglo community was on display. The languages used by character are harsh and rough. You get impressed by the way problems are faced by such desperate people.
Rating for the movie is 8 out of 10.
