“Ek –The Power of One” is about a young criminal who has been hired by political leaders to kill prominent opposition leader and he changes from being a criminal to normal living being, when he meets a caring large family and a lady love. The film has a predictable story as many movies in the last decades have been made where a criminal is glorified and it was termed that he changed from a terrible man to a nice person because he found the love of his life.
Another common feature of the movie is the action scenes where the lead hero kills a dozen of fighters from his single shoot and jumps from high altitudes without getting hurt. If you wish to see some fine impossible kind of actions and some fine climax this is the movie that will satisfy you. For performance you can trust Bobby Deol , he carries the action part well and basically he is not a romantic hero to display emotions in love scenes. Same can be said for Nana who plays a confident annoying policeman perfectly. The direction and script is very much predictable and you need not search for new things in the movie but presentation of the film at some places is new.
The story of the film is about Nandu, an orphan who doesn’t have a loving family and he is into crime world. He is given the task of killing a political leader and when he reaches the place where he is to kill the man, somebody else’s gunshot kills the leader and the police start searching for Nandu.
Shocked Nandu runs away from the election campaign to board a running train where he meets a young man Puran who is going to meet his family members in Punjab and Puran is returning back to his homeland to meet his family after a long time. A policeman following Nandu shoots and kills Puran. Nandu goes to meet the family of Puran to narrate about the demise of the boy but he is mistaken for Puran. He stays with the family attends family functions and he is loved by grandfather and Bua. He gets love of his life Preet and a policeman searching for Mhatres’s killer, Rane reaches the family where he meets Nandu. The story is how and why, the policemen feel that Nandu shouldn’t be punished.
The drawbacks of the movie are that the movie is almost predictable except the interesting climax and those who search for powerful emotional and romantic scenes will not get it here in the movie. You don’t feel the warmth family relations and family drama perfect. Dialogues are also predictable and rude at times.
Chunky Pandey and Jackie Shroff don’t have much roles. Pradeep is a new face and he performs well. You have a common stuff in the film and common audience in small towns may like to watch it. The film will not attract urban family audiences and multiplexes will be on strike after April 3 but the movie may not feel the heat of strike because it is aimed for small town audience.
Rating: 3 / 10
