Kasak has no style, no substance and is a misfire that leaves you exasperated and angry. It should have been called - Where Meera Send Us Screaming out of the Theater. Director Rajiv Babbar (known for his masala movies with Mithun) has taken inspiration or rather desperation from Krzysztof Kieslowsky’s “White“, one of the best from the master, and give it treatment that would have certainly make the late Polish filmmaker twirl in his grave.
Lucky Ali is shown as the poor young lad who looks after his diabetes struck mom (Anjana Mumtaz) who is in coma for years. After his mother’s demise, the only goal that remains in his life is to serve others. Next he joins a hospital as a male nurse who specializes in caring for coma-ridden patients. The hospital owner making him richer by one crore rupees since Amar had got even her out of coma!
Meanwhile Anjali (Meera), his fellow nurse - a beautiful woman who wants to reach for the skies in the shortest possible time - soon expresses her love. She is shown as a hip swing seductress clad in red fishnet stockings who seduce him and gets a marriage commitment from him in no time. As soon as Amar gifts her 1 crore cheque on the wedding day, Anjali makes his wedding night a nightmare. She flings him on his back, straddles him and says: sab ke andar koi na koi jaanwar hota hai, so let’s start. Knowing quite well that a simple Amar won’t agree to this demand of her, she develops a case of Amar being impotent. To this Amar whines “I’m not impotent. I’m just a bit slow,” But who would listen to his pathetic woes and she immediately gets a divorce from him.
Foolish Amar continues remembering and lusting after Anjali but to no avail. With no convincing reasons whatsoever he still continues to love her and now wants to become a rich man so that he could snatch her away from all the other rich men! In this he is first aided by a rich man Raunak (Mukesh Tiwari) and an estate owner Captain (Puneet Issar), who is content with his voluptuous moll Maya (newcomer Nandini). To add some mirch-masala to the proceedings, Maya is shown lusting for Amar. But Amar determined after Anjali with folded hands sends her away. With a stroke of luck Amar becomes rich, not overnight but over an year and invites Anjali back in his life with a promise of 5 crore rupees. An absurd drama about Amar’s murder is built around the pre-climax and climax and the movie come to a screeching end.
Without going in much detail one can conclude Kasak is the kind of movie one would not spend two hours just to see a bunch of losers.
Top in the list is of course Mr. Lucky Ali who is shown as so naive and completely besotted by a thoroughly undeserving immoral woman who sleeps with any man who can buy her worldly goods, and who publicly accuses her husband of impotency. And he is not able to do a thing about it. As far as acting is concerned even though his ‘helpless’ characterization forced him to have a single expression throughout the movie but in the pre-climax and climax also when one expected him to come up as a smart personality, he remained the same oldie. Ali should stick to doing soulful music videos.
Next is Meera who is loud and theatrical and doesn’t do any good to her current Bollywood standing! Acting is certainly not Meera’s forte and neither is dialogue delivery. She should be banished back to Pakistan. When it comes to outsize cleavages and bad dialogue delivery, we got our ample in Bollywood.
Last but not the least is the director himself. One fails to understand why Rajiv Babbar made this movie was made at all and his shifted genres from his factory-line Mithun Chakraborty flicks. Mukesh Tiwari is completely listless in his most forgettable role ever while Puneet Issar is loud.
Kasak is a very predictable and monotonous fare.
