Movie Review: Mr Ya Miss

Mr Ya Miss - But give it a miss

Director: Antara Mali , Satchit Puranik
Producer: Ram Gopal Varma, Sunil Chainani, Sameer Srivastava
Cast: Antara Mali, Aftab Shivdasani, Ritesih Deshmukh, Divya Dutta, Bharat Dabholkar

Antara Mali has now tried her hands in everything from acting to scriptwriting to direction. In the latest flick Mr. Ya Miss she has done all three together and this must have been the reason that she became Jack of all Trades but Master of None. Her movie venture, although a different concept, has failed.

The story:
Casanova, advertising executive, Sanjay Saxena (Aftab Shivdasani) thinks every woman - a thing waiting to be savored. He also thinks himself smart enough to date ten girlfriends at a time and his best friend Shekhar (Ritesh Deshmukh) is always left in wonder at the ease with witch he lies with each of his girlfriends. But things do not remain rosy for long - Sanjay is caught by one of his girlfriend who comes to know of his numerous affairs and he gets accidentally killed when in her fury she hits him on his head.

Up in the heaven, Sanjay pleads with Lord Shiva and Parvati for another chance as heaven is denied to him thanks to his philandering lifestyle and hell does not belong to him for he has been a nice person altogether. The gods decide that Sanjay should somehow learn to respect woman. So they send him back as a woman Sanjana (Antara Mali), his fictitious long lost sister. For the first time he starts seeing the world through a woman’s eyes.

Till here the narrative is ok but the moment Antara comes in front of the screen the movie has takes a downhill, for except - her adjusting to the ‘gender change’ and avoiding the male predatory eyes - there is nothing else left in the movie. The movie is stretched like a rubber band that has no break point. This senseless comedy goes on and on where Sanjay’s best friend Shekhar also falls for him and he impregnates him, her, whatever! It becomes pretty intolerable when Sanjana is arrested and send to jail for the alleged murder of Sanjay.

Even worse is the performance on Antara’s part where she is shown to adjust to the ‘gender bender’ - with clumsy with high heels and low-necks, overblown swagger, disheveled mane and a manly-body language - she is an ugly picture of discomfort that fails to make you laugh. Her direction is full of loopholes and screenplay in the second half has nothing to look forward to.

The first half-an-hour of the movie is interesting because of Aftab only where he has manager to look prince charming as the role required him to be. Ritesh Deshmukh and Divya Dutt perform their respective tasks satisfactorily. Film’s music will be dangerous to your ears and background score is pathetic.

Need anymore reasons to avoid this flick? Mr ho Ya Miss we can always give it a miss.
