Amol Shetge Rain is a Suspense thriller with a lot of skin show (oops cleavage show) attached to it. It is made with a view to attract the male segment only. How else could one imagine the film without sex-appeal when it has Himanshu Malik (he is famous for giving 17 kisses to Mallika Sherawat in khwahish ) and Meghna Naidu (so liberal in exposing her body) in it? But the dull part of the movie is, apart from flaunting the skin assets; acting abilities of both of them are not substantial enough to grip you.
‘Rain’ is a movie meant for selective audiences only those who want titillation and some suspense.
The film tells the story of Sandhya Bhatnagar (Meghna Naidu) who is born blind. In the first scene only a sensuous looking Meghna Naidu in a bathtub, her legs outstretched in an inviting pose is shown on screen. Can you believe this will portray her image as a famous writer? Anyway! She lives in a bungalow, which stands alone amidst the wilderness of a hill station. Living solitude, Sandhya spends most of her time on her Braille typewriter typing stories, which are based on the tough realities of life.
One day a journalist Prakash (Himanshu Malik) calls her for an appointment for the interview. She gives him affirmation and calls him over. Before he arrives at her abode, she starts picking up knives and keeps them under the sofa, tables and racks and pistols in bookshelves and kitchen for her security. Prakash arrives. The confrontation between the two is very uneasy and one can feel it in the air that something is about to give, thus making the first half quite interesting. The interview goes on slickly till the topic of rain oozes out of the talks casually. Prakash learns that Sandhya has a strange fear - the fear of rain. The mention of rain makes her nervous and tense. She also gets frantic and goes utterly insane when the rain actually starts pouring. Prakash now tries to find out what is the thing that makes her suffer from this strange phobia. He takes her to the bathroom and sings the nursery rhyme to shoo her fear. Wow! What a way to treatment.
Apparently, she was raped on a rainy night, arranged by her stepfather. But her stepfather died during the police interrogation that followed. And while she does not know who raped her, Sandhya got pregnant. Later, she was told that a certain Avinash wants to marry her and accept her unborn child. But he had a condition: He would not meet her until she delivered the baby. Unfortunately, she delivered a stillborn. And Avinash vanished. She narrates the story of her life to Prakash and he asks her to start her life afresh. Romance blossoms between the two and they kiss. And that’s when she knows. Her rapist had kissed her the same way…
Well! We appreciate the story is good! But the climax is pathetic and so is the acting.
Meghna overacts a lot and was quite irritating at times. Himanshu Malik too overacted at many places in the movie but not so much as Meghna. He seriously needs to get rid of the extra fat that he has gathered. Amol Shetge fails to tell the story convincingly and puts in too many songs, particularly in the second half.
Rain is a time pass movie that could be watched if you have nothing else to do. You can also see Rain for an elongated lovemaking scene (between Meghna and Himanshu), a shower scene and an ultimate rain dance in the end.
