Music Review: Billo Barber

Music Review: Billo Barber

Pritam Chakraborty appears to have worked hard to compose the music of the movie to avoid any kind of loopholes or drawback in the album. The range of music and lyrics used in the song goes from western styles to Punjabi Bhangra to rap number, sufi classical and north Indian desi. Pritam has a changed style in the album, worth to be noticed but he keeps up in making the songs energetic high in beats like most of his songs.

‘Marjaani’ - Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan get together to sing for the dance number that has Punjabi lyrics with words like “Kuriyan and Khasmo-na-khaye marjani “mixed to western tunes in between. The song has been choreographed on Kareena and Shahrukh Khan and lyrics are by Gulzar. The song is a kind of Punjabi song remixed into Hindi movie song. Sukhwinder and Sunidhi Chauhan get together for another remixed version of the song that is called “Electro House “ (What does it mean?) and another version called Kilogram’s Balkan Mix (Can anybody make out from name what does it mean?) is also present in the album that is in voice of K.K. and Akruti Kakkar.

‘Love Mera Hit Hit’ - Neeraj Shridhar and Tulsi Kumar get together for the song that has music of a rap kind of energetic number with Punjabi lyrics all over with theme of teasing the lead “soniye” It is a fun song choreographed on Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. There are three versions of the song in album, one is the remixed version in same voices and other is “house remix” with same singers.

‘ You Get Me Rockin and Reeling’ The next one ‘ You Get Me Rockin and Reeling’ is in voice of Neeraj Shridhar that is a hip hop number having completely western tunes and even English lyrics. This one is average to hear. There are three versions of the song in the album which include a general remixed version and a Video Edit in the voice of Neeraj Shridhar and Dominique.

‘Ae Aa O’ The song starts as if you are hearing to the sound of a “huge” guitar and high beats with grand music and English lyrics that is not very clear. The song seems extremely inspired from songs of “Rock On.” It’s more like loud noises from everywhere to attract a few youngsters in parties. K.K., Rana Mazumder and Suraj get together for the song and a remixed version of the song is also present in the album.

‘Jaaon Kahan’ A slow sad number with less number of musical instrument and sounds come as relief after the loud one .The song is in voice of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan that comes with sufi tunes that is extremely effective. The song is a situational number and it is lovely to hear.

‘Billoo Bhayankar’ The desi north Indian kind of song (like a Manoj Tiwari song) that is sweet to listen and reminds of some of the beautiful compositions made in past. The lyrics are like small town language of Uttar Pradesh mixed to some high rock beats instead of tabla and harmonium sounds and the song is in voice of Ajay Jhingaran, Raghuveer and Kalpana. The theme is to praise billo in a way to bring fun out of the situation.

‘Khudaya Khair’ The next one is average song that starts with slow guitar sound and then proceeds like a Vishal-Shekhar romantic love song. The song has voices of Soham Chakrabarthy, Akruti Kakkar and Monali. The composer should have opted for some other singers for the song because the voices are not that sweet to be impressive on romantic number and another version of the song in the voice of Abhijheet that can be heard later in the album.

The songs appear to be composed in a manner that has both Vishal Shekhar and Pritam styles.
