Yash Raj Films has been the most successful banner last year with three back-to-back hits (’Veer-Zaara’, ‘Hum Tum’ and ‘Dhoom’). Yash Raj’s first offering of the year is a hilarious comedy– ‘Bunty Aur Babli’. Shaad Ali of ‘Saathiya’ has directed this fun-loving romantic drama. The triumvirates of Rani Mukherjee, Shaad Ali and Yash Raj banner fetched fruitful results in ‘Saathiya’. They hope to repeat their feat again.

With “Bunty Aur Babli”, get ready for a full-on fun session with the trio that has given us some of the best movie soundtracks in recent times, like “Kuchh Na Kaho”, “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Kal Ho Na Ho”.

Shankar - Ehsaan - Loy’s teaming up with the exclusive Gulzar in this ‘dhamaka’ of an album is a bit of a historic event. In director Shaad Ali’s previous film “Saathiya”, the poet extraordinaire had collaborated with A.R. Rahman for the exquisite and fragile songs.

Bunty aur Babbli

Side A

Dhadak Dhadak: A song for the masses, Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Nihira Joshi is an interesting composition that should be making an appearance at the very beginning of the film. To feature at the beginning of the film the song tells the story of a boy and a girl looking forward to a life full of adventure and fun as they move out of their down-to-earth upbringing.

Chup Chup Ke: Chup Chupke starts with the tune of the first track and the basic rhythm and flow is somewhat a derivative of ‘Dhadak Dhadak’, maybe intentionally. Sonu Nigam and Mahalaxmi Iyer come together for a romantic duet that carries with it the SEL style of subtle music. With an effective usage of Indian instruments, it is rich in melody while the lyrics are again different from ordinary. A good number to listen to, it is not one of those numbers that is instantly catchy with everyone in the town humming it around. It is to the credit of the composers that they play around with the words to come up with an ear-pleasing tune

Nach Baliye: Typical Punjabi music makes way with comical lyrics for the track “Nach Baliye” in the voices of Shanker Mahadevan, Somya Raoh and Loy Mendosa. The situational track fails to maintain the winning streak of the previous track. The musical trio has earlier conceived successful track ‘Pretty Woman’ that has shades of typical Punjabi music. However, this track disappoints. The music is loud and noisy with some ordinary lyrics. The song might fill the situation in the film but lacks the panache to be chartbuster.

Side B

Bunty Aur Babli: Chirpy rap lyrics showing the character traits for “Bunty” and “Babli” head start the title track “Bunty Aur Babli”. Shanker along with Siddarth Mahadevan sets the mood for this entertaining and fun-loving track. Sukhwinder Singh and Jaspinder Narula make their presence felt as the lead vocalists. The song symbolizes the theme of the film along with the characterizations of the lead characters. The music is trendier with some witty lyrics as the positive box office performance of the film will make this track popular.

B N B: Rapper Blaaze writes and sings for yet another title number ‘B N B’ that gets your neck in motion as soon as you through with the first 30 seconds. With Shankar and Loy chipping in their bit, this English number seems to be a promotional track that should guarantee immense craze for the movie if unleashed a couple of weeks before the movie’s release. With a catchy rhythm accompanying Blaaze’s rendition throughout, it should be a unique experience for the Bollywood followers who would freak out on this zippy track.

Nach Baliye: Alisha Chinai begins the mujra/nautanki number ‘Nach Baliye’ that is bound to be a yet another fun number in the movie while B and B are out for yet another loot. Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Ali lend fine support to Alisha who is a revelation as a singer with this genre. Not a number that you would hum around but enjoy while it runs on the screen.

‘Bunty aur Babli’ is another feather in the cap of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Through not a traditional soft and mushy Yash Raj Album Bunty and Babli is worth a buy.
