‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ is a slapstick comedy starring Salman Khan, Sushmita Sen and Katrina Kaif. Director David Dhawan is back after tasting blood from last years top earner ‘Mujhsay Shaadi Karoogi‘.

David Dhawan’s films always boast chartbusting music numbers and ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ is no exception. ‘Himesh Reshammiya’ is entrusted the task of composing the melodies and though he isn’t one of the Bollywood’s better musicians, Himesh has been churning out contemporary albums which work out with GEN-X.

Music Review

Just Chill [5:26]: Amrita Kak, Sonu Nigam and Jayesh Gandhi sing this high octane dance number picturized on Salman, Sohail and Katrina Kaif. Chances are that you have already heard/seen this song along with promos of the movie. A perfect song to promote a film, ‘Just Chill’ is the perfect pill for DJ’s.

Dil Di Nazar [5:23]: Another youthful song from ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’. Dil Di Nazar’ is sung by Shaan, Priya, Shaznine and Neeraj Shreedhar (Bombay Vikings lead singer). The song is a typical Bombay Viking song which would be loved by his fans. A party number in Hinglish (’Dil di nazar, Padi tujhpe udhar, Baja jane jigar, Dhadkan ka gajar’ in Hindi and ‘You are the one for me, O jaana you are mine’ in English) the song is catchy and in tune with what Gen-X wants.

Laga Prem Rog [5:46]: If you loved ‘Chunri-Chunri’ from Biwi No. 1, ‘Laga Prem Rog’ is highly recommended song of the season. Once again picturized on ‘Salman and Sushmita’ on wonder where Himesh and Sameer drew inspiration from. An extremely catching song in the voices of Alka Yagnik and Kamaal Khan ‘Laga Laga…’ will grow on you. After unsuccessfully trying his hands in acting Kamaal Khan is back at doing what is best known for…singing (his acting skills were criticized in Jo Bole So Nihaal).

Ishq Chunariya [5:12]: ‘Ishq Chunariya’ is a passe number which Himesh uses as fillers in albums. The song lacks the class of earlier songs. Though no denying the Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik effect but the song can be best described - seen that, heard that before.

Just Chill - Remix [4:46]: Akbar Sami is roped in to add a little more to the original number. Now, as if we were cribbing about lack of adrenaline in original number the remixed version has some extra drum beats and added tempo. Akbar Sami uses a rap interlude in-between (Jack and Jill went up the hill…) but the result is not as heartening as expected. One expected better from Mr. Sami.

Sajan Tumse Pyar [4:26]: What would a David Dhawan movie be without a song for masses. Not exactly ‘Sarkayee Lo Khatiya…’ but this song is custom made by Sameer for the front benchers. For rest the song is an avoidable fare.

Ye Ladki [3:56]: Kamaal Khan and Sunidhi Chauhan try to pump in life in an otherwise uninspiring number. ‘Yeh Ladki…’ is another of those half baked songs by Himesh. Good thing, the song has the shortest run time in the album.

Laga Prem Rog - Remix [5:36]: DJ Akbar Sami shows why he is called the best there is in India. He is in his best form when working on ‘Laga Prem Rog’. Instead of using western instruments he uses traditional instruments (like matka) to decorate ‘Laga Prem Rog…’ in a style that is uniquely his (reminds us of ‘Jalwa’ remix).

Teri Meri Love Story [4:58]: Shaan, Sunidhi and Babul sing this fun filled song that brings out the gist of the movie (Love Angle, Trianle…). The song heavily borrows from ‘Head ya Tail’ song of ‘Deewana Mastana’. ‘Teri Meri…’ and ‘Head ya Tail’ again had similar situations and it seems Himesh has shamelessly lifted the entire song. Shaan and Sunidhi are first rate but the surprise package is reinvented Babul Supriyo who for a change overcomes his fixture of singing like Kumar Sanu.

Dil Di Nazar - Remix [4:39]: Contemporary remix is what this track can be best classified as. The original number is jazzed up and tempo is raised several notches. Though nothing special the song is your perfect dose when partying.

Ye Ladki - Remix [3:26]: Remix of ‘Yeh Ladki’ is better than the original but not a track that would be remembered for long.

Bottom Line:
The music album ‘Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya’ is a sure shot winner. Himesh is at his best since ‘Humraaz’. The album lacks the shelf life; the songs would find flavour with the GEN-X and take the dance floors by storm.
