Pyare Mohan - comedy with a difference
Director Indra Kumar who has tickled viewers with his previous works like Dil and Masti has come up with new laughathon - Pyare Mohan which is about two disabled friends who wins over their handicap to save their love ladies from a difficult situation along with fun and comedy. Obviously the film wanted to give a message that even disable people can face life happily and courageously. So Indra Kumar made an amusing movie with a serious tone to it. The director’s intentions were beautiful but the outcome is somewhat confusing.

The good news is that Pyare Mohan has good dose of comedy to make you dizzy but the bad news is it also becomes serious at times to actually make you feel guilty that you are laughing at their disability. It seems like the director was himself confused weather to handle the issue with humor or with concern.
Story:
Pyare Mohan (Fardeen Khan, Viveik Oberoi) are two friends who use to be stuntmen in a film company initially but having met with an accident on the sets, Pyare loses his vision while Mohan goes deaf. Alone, they are like any other disable person who get into mess from time to time but together, they are tough spoons who compliment each other in their needs. Pyare becomes Mohan ears and Mohan becomes Pyare’s eyes. This way they are living their life happily. They own a gift shop and they sell love cards. They might be happy but both of them yearn for a girlfriend who understand them and love them genuinely.
One morning their wish comes true. During their morning walk Mohan see Priya (Amrita Rao) and leaves Pyare, to follows her. Knowing he is deaf, she feels sympathy for him and they become friends. Now Pyare who was walking alone accidentally meet Preeti (Esha Deol) and they also become friends. Pyare Mohan starts dreaming of a future with sisters Preeti and Priya.
Both the sisters are ambitious and wannabe pop singers. Preeti wants to get all the name, fame and popularity in her life and pictures on every hoarding board so that her boyfriend could see and marvel. But ironically her boyfriend Pyare is blind! Priya wants to scale the height of popularity so that the entire world can hear her. But unfortunately her boyfriend Mohan turns out be deaf!
The sisters, while leaving for Bangkok for a concert, clear the misconception of Pyare Mohan and tell them in clear words that for partners they need somebody who can take care of them and not somebody who always need help from them. They also add that they will always consider them to be their friends but nothing more. Pyare Mohan is left with aching hearts.
In their flight to Bangkok, the aircraft starts quivering due to bad weather and one of the passengers, Tony (Boman Irani) thinking that he is going to die makes a confession to a priest (Feroze Irani) who is seated right next to Preeti and Priya.
Tony confesses that he’s actually the underworld don who had deliberately spread the news of his death so that he could escape to another country. A few seconds later, the weather turns normal and now the don - Tony wants to eliminate the priest since he knows the secret. Both the girls try to save the father but Tony murders him at Bangkok airport. The girls misunderstood by Thailand Police get charged with the murder and are imprisoned in a Bangkok prison.
Pyare Mohan when come across Preeti Priya’s imprisonment news through TV, they board the next available flight to Bangkok to rescue them. By now Tony also comes to know that Preeti Priya knows his true identity and therefore send his people to kill them. Somehow Pyare Mohan understands the don’s plan and tries every trick in the book to rescue them. Their struggle mixed with their follies comes out as hilarious moves.
The best part of the movie is that the fast pace has been evenly maintained throughout which does not make it boring. Also, it is devoid of crude jokes and double meaning which comes as a welcome change from Indra’s last (Masti). The film has a glossy look throughout and the camerawork has captured the locales of Bangkok superbly. The dialogues and many comic scenes are high on entertainment - The initial scenes between Fardeen and Viveik, Fardeen making the mess at the Road, Their interactions with Amrita and Esha, Viveik repeating other’s words with mistake, The chase portions in Bangkok, Esha saying ‘I am the daughter of the Indian HeMan‘, The duo, shower abuses at the Bangkok inspector and then damage his car. Action stunts by Fardeen and Viveik telling about the position of enemy, Viveik switches on the music when Boman is searching him - like this there are many funny situations which will keep you entertained.
Fardeen Khan and Viveik Oberoi is tailor made for this film. Fardeen was comfortably silly and Viveik was pleasantly energetic. Viveik’s comic timing was immaculate. The chemistry between both is simply crackling with fun. Esha Deol and Amrita Rao look trendy and spontaneous. Out of two Esha Deol has putted a lot of energy into the story while Amrita couldn’t impress in the second half. Boman Irani has well played his part of a merciless gangster. He also gets the best lines and the highlights of the film.
The screenplay does have its share of flaws and Anu Malik’s music has been forced into the proceedings. The second half of the movie was not very encouraging as it has many sore points. Here the movie becomes serious at many places. Also duo saves the heroines so many times that by the time they actually confront the villain you are least excited. Again at the climax the duo gets bashed up by wine bottles - this will put off many. When a viewer comes to watch this kind of movie, he wants to keep his thinking caps at bay and thoroughly enjoy the silliness and craziness but if he is reminded of his foolishness, it acts like a cold shower to his enjoyment. The director should have concentrated more on comedy.
Still Pyare Mohan is a bitter sweet outcome which might act like a timepass.
Rating: 2.5/5

The Shepherd of the Hills—director Henry Hathaway’s (True Grit) tale of backwoods moonshiners—is a Harry Carey vehicle more than a John Wayne picture. Carey not only plays the title character, he is the film’s heart and soul, delivering a gentle performance imbued with unassuming nobility. It’s a treat to see Wayne and Carey share the screen with one another as Wayne replaced (and eclipsed) Carey as director John Ford’s go-to leading man. Wayne’s respect and admiration for Carey was such that in the iconic closing shot of Ford’s The Searchers, he mimicked Carey’s mannerism of holding his left elbow in his right hand as a sly tribute to the actor, who had been dead a little less than a decade when the film was shot. Wayne’s respect for Carey comes through in every scene they share in The Shepherd of the Hills, though Young Matt is Dan Howitt.
