Karan Razdan who has directed Girlfriend (created much furor because of its controversial topic) has three films lined for March release. The films, Souten - The Other Woman, Umar and Eight will release simultaneously and this is what he has to say about it.

Aren't you anxious that all three of your films are releasing simultaneously in March?
How I wish I could control the release of my films! I started all the films almost six months back. I must confess I am lucky to have three films one after the other. Let us see how audience reacts to them. This is indeed a rare phenomenon in Bollywood but I am game for it.

Will we see any controversy this time also, similar to Girlfriend?
In spite of all the controversy, Girlfriend did a good business for my producer and stars. It ran for 100 days in Delhi and Mumbai and we made our money. It is indeed sad that we do live in a hypocritical society. Who decides what is good for viewing and what is not? Well, this time there is no controversy. All my subjects are real and one that any one would relate to with surprise.

All three of your films have different topics.
Many may think that I am playing safe but honestly, these topics have touched me very closely. ‘Umar’ is about the synergy between the young and old. ‘Souten - The Other Woman’ is about the other woman in a man’s life. The third is ‘Eight-Shani’, a supernatural suspense thriller.

What went wrong between you and actress Mahima?
She troubled my producer and it was but obvious for me to support Navin Tak. Mahima seemed to have that bahenji look since ‘Pardes’. Surprisingly everybody has noticed the change in Mahima’s hot look in ‘Souten-The Other Woman’.

Why you prefer newcomers more than the established stars?
Firstly, my films are more character oriented rather than star oriented. Two, it is easier to work with newcomers who give their best because they are so charged up. If you have noticed most of my films have content that is above the star cast, so I love to work with newcomers.

How did you manage to cast late Raj Kumar's daughter?
We move in a circuit and I was introduced to Vastavikta by one of my friends. I was looking for a girl to play the character that I offered to her. She agreed because it reminded of her father’s movie Neel Kamal. She is a wonderful girl and has performed well in Eight-Shani. The hero of the film Raj Tara is another talented guy and one will be shocked to see how seasoned he is in his first film. The enthusiasm of the two was nice to see it.

What actually is Eight all about?
Eight is beautiful because it propagates karma! I strongly feel that sooner one will see cinema being more educative and informative as compared to what we have been seeing in recent times. Girlfriend was educative but people revolted saying it was obscene.
