The Magic of Amitabh Bachchan
The Magic of Amitabh Bachchan
We have all grown up watching his movies. I remember the time I got my dad to take me to watch Coolie just after school coz I wanted to see the scene when he was hit very badly in stomach in reality and had to undergo intensive treatment. All the frenzy in the newspaper and media meant nothing to me; I just wanted to see him bash up the villains in the end. Hum was one of the last of his movies, which I saw on the theatre. Aks and Boom really scared me off in the end…
Times have passed by and now he is everywhere. From television to advertisements and of course movies. And so much so that even if you do not go out to watch any of his flicks, you still get to see his magic at work. I went to see The Bourne Supremacy today. The movie was awesome. Especially the car chase sequences. The one in the beginning in Goa, India with Hyundai Sonata and Maruti Gypsy was interesting… who could have imagined them in a car chase sequence in a Hollywood biggie! India is surely doing well in Hollywood. There is even an Indian supporting actor (kind of…) in the Steven Spielberg movie The Terminal. And who can forget the Sati in Matrix series…
Back to my movie trip. The movie was awesome and apparently, everyone in the crowd loved it. However, one of the biggest moments of excitement that really amazed me was when during the interval the new Pepsi advertisement with Arshad Varsi and Amitabh Bachchan came. Even though, I am sure they must have seen the advertisement many a times before on television… the crowd cheered and laughed at the subtle humor in Amitabh’s acting. This was totally opposite to the sarcastic laughter I heard during the viewing of Dev.
