Sony bought MGM, which happens to be the current partner of Zee. The deal runs through the end of this year, but considering Sony is a competitor to Zee in India, Zee might not get a renewal on its deal with MGM. Therefore, Zee is considering launching an independent movie channel after the deal with MGM gets over with. Due to its alliance with MGM, Zee had access to massive MGM archives of movies, which included all the James Bond movies, Rocky, Woody Allen movies and the Pink Panther series.
