Mallika Sherawat’s latest release ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’ might not be getting good response at the box office but it hasn’t been able to affect the actress name and fame. The sex siren is soon going to play the Goldie Hawn’s role from Private Benjamin in a plum Hollywood remake project produced by Ravi Walia.

Being a comedy, the film is aptly titled ‘Fauj Mein Mauj’ and will be directed by debutant Murli Nagavalli, who so far has been assistant to Priyadarshan. Mallika will again play the role of a sex bomb in this film too.

The director confirmed, “Yes, I’m directing Mallika in Fauj Mein Mauj.” Talking about his inspiration from Hollywood flick he said, “It has been changed to suit the Indian audiences. The film is a comedy along the lines of the Police Academy series, but set in the army it’s a story of what happens when a sexy young woman joins the army.” On a note of caution he added, “I’m not making fun of anyone, but just making a humorous film. Actress Aishwarya Rai is going very hard on herself these days. Her tight schedule and bad weather conditions in Rio de Janeiro where she was shooting for Dhoom 2 literally left her speechless. She has now been diagnosed with laryngitis.

Aishwarya said, “I can barely speak. Though my voice is getting better, it will take some time for it to get back to normal.” The infection has even made the actress postpone the shoot for J.P. Dutta’s Umrao Jaan in Lucknow.

For now, the actress is yet recovering from the overwhelming response she received at Melbourne. Ash undertook a 34-hour journey from Brazil, where she was shooting for Dhoom 2 to represent India at a performance with other actors at the Commonwealth Games finale. (more…)

My relation with Aishwarya is a case of misinterpretation of good friendship and it is not new for the industry. It is happening with all actors. You work with an actress in one film and people start linking you with her. The moment you sign another film with someone else, you become the heartthrob of some other woman. I don’t think I am answerable or need to clarify because the more you do, people draw different meaning from it. I agree that whatever actors do is in the public domain and so they become subject to public scrutiny. But I also believe that there are certain things, which should remain personal. You will be seen opposite Bipasha Basu and she has a power packed role in the film.
Even if Bipasha plays the protagonist, my role is equally important in the film. If I can judge for myself that a film can be made without me I do not sign it. When Madhur approached me with his script, I was thrilled because it was a trilogy which he is planning to make. I have seen Page 3, and I think Atul Kulkarni’s character was as strong as Konkona’s in the film. It would be wrong to tag him as a feminist film-maker. His male characters are equally interesting - he has both spineless and intelligent male characters in his films. (more…)

After the success of Parineeta, the actress is on every director’s most-wanted list, so much so that Parineeta director Pradeep Sarkar does not want to loose her. He went far enough to say, “I would love to work with her in all my projects”. Apparently Sarkar has been approached by Yash Chopra to direct a film for his banner, and Sarkar wants Abhishek Bachchan and Vidya Balan in the lead.
