Mallika Sherawat’s latest release ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’ might not be getting good response at the box office but it hasn’t been able to affect the actress name and fame. The sex siren is soon going to play the Goldie Hawn’s role from Private Benjamin in a plum Hollywood remake project produced by Ravi Walia.
Being a comedy, the film is aptly titled ‘Fauj Mein Mauj’ and will be directed by debutant Murli Nagavalli, who so far has been assistant to Priyadarshan. Mallika will again play the role of a sex bomb in this film too.
The director confirmed, “Yes, I’m directing Mallika in Fauj Mein Mauj.” Talking about his inspiration from Hollywood flick he said, “It has been changed to suit the Indian audiences. The film is a comedy along the lines of the Police Academy series, but set in the army it’s a story of what happens when a sexy young woman joins the army.” On a note of caution he added, “I’m not making fun of anyone, but just making a humorous film. It’s a fictional story.” (more…)

Movie Review: Shaadi Se Pehle
What happens in the mind of most of the couples before marriage (Shaadi Se Pehle)? Confusion, fright, panic and misunderstandings. And this is what director Satish Kaushik wanted to reflect through this light entertainer. But don’t pull your hopes too high because apart from the top star cast (Akshaye Khanna, Ayesha Takia, Aftab Shivdasani, Mallika Sherawat, Rajpal Yadav, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher and Sunil Shetty) and interesting story, the movie is like a luke-warm shower which you might not find too alluring.
Story:
Ashish Kapoor (Akshay Khanna) and Rani (Ayesha Takia) is a couple who are pretty much in love with each other. Ashish has a problem. He tries to stop even the slightest level of tension, by popping a pill to control his shaken nerves. This comes to the notice of Rani’s family members who in turn try to separate them. And if that was not enough for Ashish, there is his friend Rohit (Aftab Shivdasani) who wants Rani to be his, so keep trying to create confusion between lovers. Despite all this, Rani genuinely loves Ashish and sticks to him.
However, when Ashish goes to visit his doctor, he misunderstands the doctor’s diagnosis of hypertension to cancer and thinks that he has only one year to live. (more…)

Rajpal Yadav after having many hits to his credit is finally getting appreciation for his work but the versatile actor don’t want to restrict his talent to comedy only and therefore keeps experimenting.
Your recent comic caper 'Malamaal Weekly' has become a hit. What's the reason behind its success?
Thanks to the globalization of the media, people are well-versed with what’s happening not just in the country but in every part of the world, and the reality can be quite frightening. Cinema provides them with an escape route and some light moments.
However, like it is with fashion, the circle changes periodically with films too. Today it’s comedies; tomorrow it could be action adventures or tragic dramas. What is consistent is that cinema is a never-ending source of entertainment no matter what form it takes. That’s why I have never restricted myself to any one genre. From the main hero to second leads to character roles, from comedy to intense drama and negative roles, I’m constantly experimenting. (more…)

Malamaal Weekly – no maldar comedy
Director: Priyadarshan
Credited cast: Riteish Deshmukh, Rimi Sen, Om Puri, Paresh Rawal and Arbaaz Khan
Comparing Priyadarshan’s previous track record (Hera Pheri, Hungama, Hulchul, Garam Masala) of hit comedies, Malamaal Weekly fails to tickle your funny bones. The story of the movie is very confusing as the sub plots keep interfering in the main plot. Also, apart from some funny dialogues, which are mainly kept for Paresh Rawal and Om Puri, the rest of the movie seems plain. The movie that is stuffed with comic maestro such as Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Om Puri and upcoming comic actor Ritesh Deshmukh (Bluffmaster, Masti, Kya kool Hai Hum), has featured below par performances of each actor.
Story:
Malamaal Weekly starts with sutradhar Naseeruddin Shah’s narration of a small drought affected village where people are fighting for survival from poverty, poor harvests and a Thakurani called Karamkali (Sudha Chandran) and her brother Baijey (Rajpal Yadav) who harass the poor illiterate villagers by squeezing excess interest from them. These people are barely able to make ends meet. (more…)
