Salman lives and breathes his character in Saawan - Saawan Kumar Tak

Saawan Kumar Tak’s emotional cum destiny saga ‘Saawan - The Love Season’ is due for release this week and the director shares his experience about the film. Those who don’t believe in destiny will start after reading the interview.

Why did you approach Salman for this film?

When ‘Dil Pardesi Ho Gaya’ did not meet the box-office expectations, I promised the two leading actors, Kapil Jhaveri and Salloni Asvani, that it would be my responsibility to ensure that they settled down in their careers. I felt I owed it to them considering that I had launched their careers. The big question was however the choice of an actor for the central character in the film. When I wrote the character played by Salman, I knew that only a big star of the stature of Salman or Shah Rukh could do justice to it. Since I knew Salman, I decided to approach him knowing that he would not be able to accommodate too many dates for me in his tight schedule.

Salman took special pains for this film. Why?

I was quite delighted when Salman initially acceded to spare a few days for the film but the course of the film changed soon after he gave the very first shot amidst a huge crowd that had gathered on the day. He delivered the dialogues in his impeccable style and paused for a while after he heard the thundering applause of the crowd that had gathered. Then he called me in his van and told me that the character he was playing was too good to be justified in a span of 20 days. I saw that he’d taken a great liking for the character. (more…)

Shaadi se Pehle, Saawan and Banaras to clash this Thursday

Subhash Ghai ‘Shaadi se Pehle’, Saawan Kumar Tak’s ‘Saawan - the Love Season’ and Pankaj Parashar’s ‘Banaras - A Mystic Love Story’ are ready for competition as all these films are releasing this Thursday (06.04.2006) on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navmi.

It keeps happening every once in a while that filmmakers try to outwit each other by releasing their films a day or two before a conventional Friday to encash on the holidays.

What’s interesting is that Saawan Kumar who way back in 1993 released his thriller ‘Khalnaika’ along with Subhash Ghai’s ‘Khalnayak’ which created a sort of controversy (Ghai had accused him of cashing in on the popularity of his film), has no apprehension even this time too to schedule his romantic thriller on the same day as the release of Mukta Arts film. Salman Khan Priorities Saawan

Salman takes special pains for some people and director-producer Saawan Kumar is one of them. While most producers are waiting in vain for Salman Khan to sort out his personal problems, he has gone out of his way for Saawan Kumar’s film titled ‘Saawan-The Love Season’.

saawan Kumar had initially asked the actor for only a few days of his time to shoot for the film but Salman shot for 23 days at a stretch. “Salman carries the entire film on his shoulders. After listening to a reading of the script he decided to shoot for it continuously and complete the film,” says Kumar.

The actor has also performed some death-stunts for the introductory scene in the film. Salman was required to rescue the heroine, Saloni Aswani on mid-street from a mishap and in order to bring out more authenticity he declined a duplicate and performed the stunt himself. (more…)
