Irrfan Khan smiles over Sex God tag

Actor Irrfan Khan who was trained from NSD (National School of Drama) had to bear a long frustrating struggle to make his place in Bollywood till his outstanding performances in ‘Haasil’ and ‘Maqbool’ came to light. Now he is scaling bigger challenger by acting in prestigious assignments like Mira Nair’s ‘Namesake’and Naseeruddin Shah’s ‘Yun Hota To Kya Hota’. Recently some foreign film magazines and noted filmmaker Ashutosh Gowarikar refered to him as Hindi cinema’s latest Sex God. He talks about it and his films.

How do you feel been refered to as Hindi cinema's latest Sex God?

I wonder how true that is, I can just smile over it. Such glorification fulfills my basic human need to be known and to be accorded due importance. But then, I am well aware of the fact that these tags and titles are for a while and I cannot depend on them for a lifelong. I take it as a moment of glory in my life. (more…)

All my films will have major stars - Anubhav Sinha

For director Anubhav Sinha who gave us ‘Tum Bin’ and super successful ‘Dus’, small stars are a thing of the past. He is planning at least four major films with the biggest of Bollywood stars. Anubhav talks about his huge rise from Tum Bin to Dus.

Sinha is getting Sunny Deol to play a serial killer in his next movie.

We haven’t really had any remarkable films on a serial killer in Hindi. Of course, we had Rajesh Khanna playing one in ‘Red Rose’ many decades ago. I find the whole process of getting into a killer’s mind very interesting. When I approached Sunny for another more positive role in the film (which I want to title ‘Pancham’), he showed more interest in the serial killer. Just goes to show how our big stars are pining to change tracks. The film “with lots of music” will be launched shortly.

To describe Sinha’s rise as meteoric would be no exaggeration.

Yeah, I guess I’ve come a long (sounds modest). But it hasn’t been easy. Though ‘Dus’ was one of those rare films this year that succeeded in both single theatres and multiplexes and though it raked in Rs.50 million in Mumbai alone, the trade wrote it off as a mere commission earner. How can they do that? Salman Khan told me I was an idiot to have made my first film ‘Tum Bin’ with small stars. (more…)

On the sets: Kaafila

Our angry man Sunny Deol (Border, Gadar) was recently in Amritsar shooting for his latest film ‘Kaafila’ and he decided to give a trip to the Wagah Border where our Jawans keep a close eye on the Border activities.

kaafila Sunny paid a visit to the Wagah Border to witness the Beating of Retreat at sundown and praised our Indian soldiers from his heart. “I think they are great. That’s why I wanted to do a film on them. So I brought Kaafila here”, Sunny Deol said.

And after getting up close and personal with the soldiers, Sunny also described the trip to Wagah as an eye-opener. “I am in love with my army. Because what they do in these areas, people can’t realise this sitting in their homes,” he added. (more…)

Teesri Aankh - better shut your eyes

Teesri Aankh deals with the subject of hidden cameras and how it causes chaos in people’s life. It’s good that director Harry Baweja tried to make a film on the growing pornography and sting operations. But the outcome is nothing to boast of and seems a million times downer if compared from Mahesh Bhatt’s brilliantly made Kalyug that also explored similar subject. The story has so many loopholes and inadequately handled scenes. What ever funds film would be able to cash in, will be through Sunny Deol’s reappearance after a long gap.

ACP Arjun Singh (Sunny Deol) is cracking down on a pornographic racket run by Sudama Pandey (Mukesh Rishi) from London. He runs a racket all over up to India through his trusted henchmen Dinesh (Mukesh Tiwari) and Dinesh (Murli Sharma). These baddies plant hidden cameras in girl’s hostel, changing rooms of shopping malls, honeymoon bedrooms of hotels and blackmail these women to such a degree that fall prey to their ultimate trap - porn movies. Sunny Deol and Harry Baweja clash over Teesri Aankh

Angry man Sunny Deol is annoyed by ‘Teesri Aankh - The Hidden Camera’ producer Harry Baweja for portraying it as the ‘Sunny-starrer’ where as Deol has just done a guest appearance in the film. This has also angered Harry for he feels that such derogatory remarks of Deol before the movie’s release will effect the film.

Deol main concern is for the viewers who might come to theaters feeling he is the hero in the film and will get disappointed for not getting to see enough of him. “If audiences suddenly find out that I am not the hero, they may be upset and the response to the entire film may be disappointing,” he said. Also the actor’s contract mentions that he is there for guest appearance in the film. Deol has called the producer way of promoting the film by portraying him as the hero - unethical and breach of contract.

Harry Baweja fired back saying that Sunny is the hero of his film and he is misleading the audience with his comments. (more…)

Sunny Deol non heroic act

Macho man Sunny Deol is no brave heart! He might have overcome many dreadful situations in reel life but when it was a question of risking his life in real, he back out soon enough.

‘Gadar’ hero was suppose to shoot for 35-40 days in Afghanistan for Ammtoje Mann’s ‘Kaafila’ but fearing security problems he revealed his unwillingness to shoot their. So the director shot all the scenes in Ladakh as the place looks very similar to Afghanistan in backdrop and ambience.

We can’t help but compare Sunny with John. The latter took the ultimate risk of his life shooting for Kabir Khan’s ‘Kabul Express’ that is entirely shot in Afghanistan capital, Kabul. (more…)
