Gujarat riots film to be passed without cuts
Chaand Bhuj Gaya a film based on Gujarat riots and the mayhem that followed was given the green signal to be released without a single cut by the Mumbai High Court upholding the freedom of speech and expression.
‘Chand Bujh Gaya’ is set in 2002 when politically motivated communal riots broke out in Gujarat and many died duing that time. The movie tells the love story of a Hindu boy and a Muslim girl, caught in the aftermath of Godhra riots.
The movie was denied certification last year, by the Censor Board. Another root cause was that a central character in the film plays the Chief Minister of Gujarat, who resembles Gujarat’s real life Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The CM ignites the riots to cash in on communal disharmony.
The subject was a little too bold for Censor boards bowels and they recommended few cuts in the movie. But the prodcers of ‘Chand Bujh Gaya’ moved court.
The movie features Aamir Khan’s brother ‘Faisal Khan’ and ‘Shama Sikandar’ in leading roles and is being produced by ‘Faiz Anwar.’
